Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

 

 

AIWEFA celebrated its Platinum Jubilee Year from 2004 to 2005. All programmes during this year have been dedicated to this event.

  • Commencing with the release of Directory ‘On Common Ground’ by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt.Sheila Dikshit at the Delhi Secretariat.
  • In Association with the International Women’s Day Celebrations, 2004 AIWEFA hosted a Shadow Roundtable Meet to coincide with the 48th session of United Nations NGO Committee on the Status of Women (CSW) at IIC.
  • Nina Sibal Award was presented to Mr. Sumit Roy of Digdarshika by the Hon’ble Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Ms. Meira Kumar.
The main Platinum Jubilee celebrations were held on March 22nd and 23rd , 2005 through a two-day Workshop, Seminar and Exhibition at India International Centre and the Alliance Francais, New Delhi. The Seminar was on the issues facing women with reference to the the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of the United Nations within the mandate of the Government of India. The theme for theExhibition and Workshop was the role of science in “Drudgery Reduction in housework ” in urban and rural areas. The focus was on highlighting science and technology developments impacting women in the areas of Food and Nutrition, Health, Habitat and Energy.On this occasion, AIWEFA presented the AIWEFA Platinum Jubilee Award for lifetime achievement to Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak, Founder of Sulabh International for his outstanding contribution in the field of sanitation; the AIWEFA Stree Ratna Award 2004 recipient was Ms Kousalya, President, Positive Women Network for her work in the field of HIV/ AIDS: Dr. Girija Vyas, Chairperson, National Commission for Women released the Platinum Jubilee Souvenir on the occasion.

Seminars

 

I. Seminar on Millennium Development Goals ( MDGs )

As part of its Platinum Jubilee Celebrations AIWEFA hosted a Seminar on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to discuss the issues faced by women with reference to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of the United Nations within the mandate of the Government of India. Speakers included Dr. Mohini Giri, Guild of Service, Dr. Vinita Sharma, Department of Science & Technology, Mr. Sita Ram Gupta, Lupin Pharma, Ms. Huma Masood UNESCO, Ms. Jaya Jaitly, Dastkari Haat Samiti, Dr. Aparna Basu, AIWC, Dr. Jaya Indiresan, Ms. Razia Ismail, Women’s Coalition, Dr. Mira Shiva, VHAI, Dr. Hema Raghvan, Rai University and others.

 

II. Shadow Roundtable Meet

 

In association with the International Women’s Day Celebrations 2004 AIWEFA hosted a Shadow Roundtable Meet to coincide with the 48thsession of United Nations NGO Committee on the Status of Women (CSW) to focus on a) Creating Awareness towards Gender Equality and b) Women’s Equal Participation in Conflict Prevention. Guest Speakers included Mr. Ajay Paitandy, IAS, Secretary, Social Welfare, Ms. Feroza Mehrotra, IAS, Dy. Regional Director, UNIFEM, and Dr. Jitendra Nagpal, Psychiatrist and Ms. Shovana Nararayan, Danseuse.

Workshop & Exhibitions

Workshop

As part of its Platinum Jubilee Celebration AIWEFA organised an Exhibition and Workshop on Impact of Science & Technology on “Drudgery Reduction in Housework” in urban and rural areas, amongst a wider audience of administrators, activists and academicians. The focus was on highlighting science and technology developments impacting women in the areas of Food and Nutrition, Health, Habitat and Energy and to use this information to influence public policy in the right direction. Participants from all over the country were invited for the exhibition and workshop.

Prof. Ramamurthy, Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology gave the Special Address; participants included Dr. Shanta Mehrotra, NBRI; Dr. Rakesh Aggarwal, HESCO; Dr. Rekha Sharma, AIIMS; Dr. Amitabh De, NITIE; Dr. Shashi Prabha Gupta, Food  & Nutrition Board; Dr. Deepti Dongaonkar, AMWI; Ms. Pooja N. Sharma, Avinash Lingam Institute, Coimbatore; Mr. Rupesh Agarwal, TERI and various other lecturers from Lady Irwin College.

Exhibition

As a part of Platinum Jubilee Celebrations AIWEFA hosted an Exhibition on impact of science and technology towards “Drudgery Reduction in House Work” in urban and rural areas. Mock ups of the different areas of housework were displayed i.e. — kitchen, bedroom, toilet and utility room etc. They high-lighted the developments in the fields of: a) Habitat, b) Energy, c) Food Be Nutrition, d) Health e) Consumer Awareness etc.

Participation from different sectors included Government sector participants from Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Non-conventional Energy Sources, Food and Nutrition Board, bilateral bodies like CARE India, TERI etc. Corporate organisations Nestle; professionals from various disciplines and NGOs also participated actively in the seminars and workshop.
